When you’re a performer, what could be more exciting than having a new piece written expressly for you?
The pianist Orli Shaham is enjoying just such an experience. She first met the composer Steve Mackey when they performed on the same concert at the Aspen Music Festival in 2007. Orli was impressed with Steve’s composition, Tuck and Roll, which was performed on the same program in which Orli was the featured soloist in two works by George Gershwin. At the same time, Steve was similarly impressed with Orli’s talents.
The idea of asking Steve to write a concerto for Orli came up almost right away, and now the project is well underway. In this space, we’ll keep you updated on the progress and process of the development of this new piece.
